Reading – II Chronicles 21 - 24
Jehoiada, the high priest made this covenant, but while Joash was a party to the covenant, he was only seven years old, he did not make this covenant for himself, it was made for him. He lived within the bonds of the covenant as long as his advisor was alive, but when Jehoiada died, so did the covenant. Joash had not accepted the agreement and the Lord for himself and therefore it was very easy to discard it when Jehoiada was no longer there to call him to order.
It is fine, as a child, to live in the beliefs and practices of your parents. I remember going to church on Sunday, mouthing the words of the service and not having a clue what it all meant. But it was expected that I would go and that I would participate. Finally the day must come in each of our lives when we make the choice for ourselves. Do I accept this God of my Father’s as my own Savior and become a woman of God? Or do I reject the entire concept and seek my own way. The choice is up to me and to you, but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father, draw me closer to you each day, guide my search though your word that I might find the answers I seek to help me become the woman you intend for me to be, in Jesus name, amen.
