Reading – Genesis 1-3

Verse for today: And God Saw all that he had made, and behold, it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)

God was taking a walk through his creation in the cool of the evening. He had been working hard for a very long time and it was pleasant to just walk quietly through all that He had brought into being. Everything He saw was very good. Everything was just as He had deemed it should be. There was nothing here that should not be here. Everything was very good.

I believe God declared the flies and mosquitoes to be good even though I don’t like the pesky things, they have a purpose here in God’s creation, therefore God declared them good. Everything from the flies to the butterflies, from the graceful gazelle to the slimiest worm, from the lumbering elephant to the airy hummingbird, everything that was created has a place and God declared them to be very good.

Have you ever thought that you weren’t worth much? I know I have. Every time I make a mistake. When I say or do something that hurts someone I love, I lose whatever respect I had for myself. But you know, God even declared my creation very good when he spoke those words so many millennium ago. Because you see, he saw me in his omniscience and knew me even then. He knew all about me, every sin I would commit, how and when I would come to him, the struggles I would have and the victories that would be mine through his power and strength.

So the next time you take a walk in the cool of the evening, see the world as God saw it on that summer evening so long ago. See the beauty, see the purpose, see the good, in all of nature, in each and every person you meet along the way. And say to God, You did good!! You did Very Very Good.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the wonderful world you have created, for the things of beauty, and for the things and people that try us and help us to grow into the positions you created for us to fulfill. Lord God, you know the way you want me to walk in this new Year that is just beginning. Take my hand Father and lead me in the paths you created for me so long ago. Keep me firmly in your will, show me daily the way to take and keep my steps firm on your solid ground. Thank you for all you have done for me and for my loved ones in the year just past, and I thank you also for the lessons you will teach and the blessings you will bestow in the days and weeks to come. In Jesus Name. Amen
